Thank you to Joe Drivas for a great presentation and to those who came to listen and learn. We learned about his method of organizing his files and the importance of backups. After the practical information he encouraged us to see things in a different way and then use Photoshop to bring our vision to life. This photo looks like a single shot but is really an attempt at a composite of three photos put together in Photoshop. Can you find the mistakes?
The new City Hall photos, shown below, were also revealed at our last meeting. They have been hung in City Hall and the Annex Gallery has been updated. My thanks to all who entered photos for the selection process, our curator, our printer and the installers. Once again we received thanks and compliments from the staff in both locations for displaying our photos.
Later this month our calendar begins to fill with opportunities to get out and take photos with your fellow club members. I encourage you to join us. It is a great way to get to know each other, make new friends, make a difference in our community and have some fun.

Volunteering is a two-way street; it does much more than just support our club.
OPC volunteers have the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and participate in and photograph events from vantage points not open to the public. Event photography is an opportunity to learn from each other while trying something new, having some fun, and acquiring some new skills.
Our meeting place is provided, at no cost, by Oviedo Recreation and Parks in return for the events we cover for them. We also provide photography services to local nonprofit organizations that support and promote our club. The Pictures we provide are used in print and on the internet with the byline "Courtesy of the Oviedo Photo Club" giving us publicity we could never buy.
Why volunteer? It's a win-win situation for everyone.

Photos from volunteer events should be uploaded to your personal non-public gallery on the Oviedo Photo Club Zenfolio site and then copied to the appropriate event gallery. If you do not have the Zenfolio password please contact the club to receive it. Our website will have links to the appropriate gallery.

For the meeting bring 5-7 pictures taken at recent events, for the monthly photo challenge or any other recent photos. Bring your photos on a thumb drive. It is very helpful if you use the date of the meeting "AUGUST 21" in naming the folders so we can be sure to show the right ones and to make it easy for our projectionist.

On Monday, September 4 the Cultural Center is closed. We will have a Labor Day Cookout which will be held at a member's home in Oviedo from 6pm - 9pm. There will be a separate mailing later this month to members with more details and directions. You may bring a guest. Members attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share, the club will provide the entree, water, tea, soda and coffee.

September Photo Challenge
|
|
Our subjects for September are:
Macro - Jewelry. Do you have a piece of jewelry with sentimental value? Or perhaps a piece you like because of it's design. Think of a way to photograph it to bring out what makes it special to you.
Phone - Motion. There are apps that will slow down the shutter speed of your phone's camera and allow you to capture motion by blurring the exposure. You can also capture motion in a more traditional way by photographing a subject such as running water, flowers blowing in the wind or moving people
General - Solitude. How would you show solitude in a photo and what mood would it express. Will your photo express loneliness or someone enjoying the quiet? Either way a photo showing solitude will tell a story or allow the viewer to imagine one.
Composition - Framing. Use either a manmade or natural object to frame your subject. Shooting a bird outside a window, a person standing in a door or a landscape framed by the branches of a tree are all examples of using framing to draw attention to your subject.
Special Challenge - Eclipse. There will be a partial eclipse of the sun on Monday, August 21 from 1:19pm - 4:14pm with the maximum view at 2:55pm. Please follow safety precautions when viewing or photographing the eclipse.

THEME FOR THE NEXT CITY HALL SUBMISSIONS
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, November 22, 2017.
Your photographs should be of firefighters, police officers, veterans, active duty military, or anyone acting as a local hero.
Photos must have been taken after November 21, 2016. Each photographer can submit up to 5 photos. If you would like to enter photos please email the club for access to a dropbox folder.

Call for Photos for New Website
|
A new website is under development by the City of Oviedo and they have asked the club to take photos in Oviedo to feature in a slideshow on the home page. Possible subjects include city government buildings, city parks, and other historic buildings and structures. Photos can be color or monochrome but they should not have any HDR or photoshop "effects" applied. Minor exposure adjustments and minimal cropping will be allowed. Only current members of the Oviedo Photo Club may submit images for consideration. More detailed submission guidelines are available to members. Published photos will be credited to the Oviedo Photo Club.

In addition to selling photography equipment and hobby supplies, they also hold in-store photo classes, including Basic Digital SLR Class and How To Use Your Point & Shoot Camera. Classes are being held Fridays and Saturdays. Call them for more information and to register.
